Reading the Quran Once a Year versus Everyday
Ramadan is quickly approaching and like always all of us plan to read the Quran diligently every single day of the month in order to receive maximum benefits that the Holy month has to offer to us. And so why mustn’t we take full advantage of the opportunity being offered to us to gain maximum rewards? Reading the Quran in the month of Ramadan gives tremendous benefits because the month is one in which the shaitaan is caged and Allah promises to forgive our sins if only we repent.
However, even though reciting the Quran every single day of the month of Ramadan is very rewarding, both for your own soul as well as your akhirah, we must realize that Allah loves us to read the Quran every single day. Just like a mother cares for the welfare of her children, Allah cares for the wellbeing of His creation and that is the reason He would love us to read Quran every single day, not just in the month of Ramadan.
Allah says about the Quran in the Quran, “A Book (the Quran) which we have sent down to you, full of blessings that they may ponder over its verses, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.” (38:29). THAT is the reason Allah wants us to read the Quran every day. With meaning. Because Allah wants us to understand the truth and the right way. A way that would eventually only benefit us when we go through it. Allah wants us to “ponder” over the verses every day of the year and gain maximum meaning out of what He says to us, such that we lead a life guarded by Allah.
Not only does reading the Quran everyday open up our horizons and make us realize the importance of things we never expected, but it also has a lot many other benefits. The recitation of the Quran heals, quite literally. We’ve heard so many cases of the Quran being read to people ailing in the hospitals and seen instant improvements in their heart rhythms. We’ve seen so many people go towards it when they are upset, and feel considerably better. The Quran has the power to heal physically and emotionally. Don’t we all, sick of the worries everyday life brings us, need the word of Allah in our life everyday then? Sure, reading the Quran in the month of Ramadan cleanses you spiritually too, but it is during the rest of the days, when shaitaan is NOT locked that you also need that cleansing from within.
Moreover, reading the Quran everyday makes you communicate with the Almighty, the being who created you. It opens doors to communication as he shows you the right path, in your job, in your marriage, with your family, HE is the one who opens your mind to possibilities. And that can only happen when you open yourself to him. Consider a child who only speaks to their mother one month out of the 12? Is that child not missing out on 11 months of unconditional love and advice that she could give him? Does he not need the mother? Sure he does! So do we need our creator, not just in the one month, but all the months to follow and forever. The recitation of the Quran can helps us get those months, unconditionally.
