Tips of How to Improve Yourself in Ramadan
Ramadan brings a lot of blessings and it is the most favorite month among Muslims. Where Ramadan brings a lot of blessings then Ramadan also brings some challenges. Since Ramadan is the month of doing good deeds and to follow the right path and most importantly Ramadan is the month of self-improving. Self-Improvement is the most beautiful yet quite difficult task.
Ramadan is a time to be grateful, to do well, and to avoid sin. It's also a month for introspection, purification, and practice. It takes a lot of physical, emotional, and spiritual commitment to help people pass, get their sins forgiven, increase your knowledge of Allah, and, in the end, win Allah's pleasure as well as Jannah.
Following are some tips for self-improvement in the month of Ramadan,
Stay Thankful no matter if there are hard times in your life:
Think of something positive in your life and say Alhamdulillah for it any time you feel like worrying about something. And if you are in a bad situation, remember that Allah has selected you for this task and that you will pass it rather than complaining to Allah. Show your appreciation to those in your vicinity. Even Allah says in Quran in Surah Ibrahim, verse 34:
“And He has granted you all that you asked Him for. If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you would never be able to number them. Indeed humankind is truly unfair, ˹totally˺ ungrateful [14:34].”
Leave procrastination and do good deeds:
Ramadan provides an abundance of blessings in a short period of time. What else does a Muslim need to be compelled to behave in a blissful manner? Rather than trying to lecture others or procrastinating in doing good deeds, take immediate steps to improve your own Muslim status. Make day after day better than the last day, and do one special good deed every day. Allah says in Surah al-Muminun, verse 99-100:
“When death approaches any of them, they cry, “My Lord! Let me go back, so I may do good in what I left behind.” Never! It is only a ˹useless˺ appeal they make. And there is a barrier behind them until the Day they are resurrected”. [23: 99-100]
Time Management and Organization:
Ramadan is the most perfect month to teach time management and organization. In other 11 months of the year we usually are not punctual and we do not pay much heed to timings of anything. If we want then we recite Quran, we make delays in Prayers, we don’t thank Allah for the blessings He has given us and most importantly we usually don’t break our sleep for worship and prayer and so we most of the times miss Fajar prayer.
However, in Ramadan we value each and every moment and we organize our schedule due to Seher and Iftar timings and we break our sleep daily with consistency just to worship Allah. Thus, we should utilize this beautiful month in practicing our time management and organizing skills to improve ourselves.
Sleep with Wudhu
Sleeping in wudhu is the most important thing we all Muslims should practice so that we won’t be distracted by evil powers while sleeping. Keeping wudhu is not only important in sleep but it is also important throughout the day and this practice can only be built when we pray five times a day. This Ramadan we all should make sure that we pay attention on building this habit.
Share at least one Quranic verse or Hadith
The purpose of being Muslim actually fulfills when we teach at least some thing regarding Islamic teachings to other people around. Spreading Islamic knowledge is indeed one of the most important things a Muslim can do. Therefore, this Ramadan we have the good opportunity to work on this habit and to make this habit stronger.
Giving Charity
Nearly every day, according to our budget, we must give charity and be charitable, just like the Prophet. Allah has vowed to repay us tenfold what we have provided. And a single penny we give multiplies our blessings several times.
Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 274:
“Those who spend their wealth in charity day and night, secretly and openly—their reward is with their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve” [2: 274].
By following all these habits we can improve ourselves and make ourselves a better human and a good Muslim.
