Words Have Power
Language has the power to convey the thoughts, to talk on right and wrong, to spread the message of good and bad, and to communicate with people. Language is comprised of words which have power to heal and hurt, to express and suppress, to humiliate and console. Right choice of words may save people and wrong choice of words may put them into the hot water.
Words have so much power and ability to show the real identities of people. Right speech may reflect the kind of behavior one possesses. Even Allah says in Quran to be careful with words while uttering. Allah loves kindness and peace, on which Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) said:
“O Aisha, Allah is gentle and He loves gentleness, and He rewards for gentleness what is not granted for harshness, and He does not reward anything else like it” [Sahih Muslim 2593]
In regard of using the right speech, Allah says in Quran in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 263:
“Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Free of need and Forbearing” [2:263]
Kind and sweet words are always effective and people also understand the delivered speech. However, words uttered with harsh tone or with the wrong choice may negatively affect the listener. Language must be used with the inspirational and motivational words, so that it may lead to impact the people in so many positive ways.
Words have a lot to do with depression and happiness; even our feelings are reflected by the word patterns. Words have the energy and power which can be better use in place of weapon to fight for right or justice. Allah drew the great analogy between words and tree, He says in Quran in Surah Ibrahim, verse 24:
“Have you not considered how Allah presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky?” [14:24]
Words carry so much weight that they cannot be replaced once said, this is why Allah says that their roots are fixed. A person must be very careful of the words he speaks because the written material can be erased but he cannot take his words out of someone’s mind. This is why Allah said that the roots of words are fixed in the ground and the branches touch the sky.
If anyone gives vent to his words without thinking, he actually discloses a lot more than just words. Such a person discloses the hatred or feelings he carries for another person and this may lead to hurt people. Since, words have a lot of power and so people must be very conscious about their language and word choice as it may affect relationships, too.
